Wellness, bikini, figure whats the difference?

When you're trying to choose your class it can be hard working out what you both like the look of and what suits your body type the most so I am going to run through the 3 most common females classes as someone who has both coached all classes and judged for multiple feds to a European standard.

Bikini (Naomi middle) - often perceived as the “easy” class I am going to tell you that it’s really not the case Bikini may hold the least muscle out the 3 but the look is probably the hardest to nail. The criteria in most feds states “Athletes should show a balanced and symmetrical physique with no muscle group larger than the other, condition showing separations between the major muscle groups but with no deep cuts or serrations posing should compliment the physique and overall look should be tasteful” now reading this is one thing but realistically we don’t see bikini girls with massive pecs or massive biceps but we do see bikini girls with round bubbly delts and awesome glutes, it is still a balanced look but I do feel in bikini they are both emphasised the most as well as a strong lat taper creating that tiny waist we like to see in bikini. Condition is the biggest thing that changes fed to fed some feds just want to see the glute ham tie in coming through others want the deep hard lean conditioning. The hard bit… well bikini they just want that “look” and that can honestly change show to show depending on what the line up is like that day, posing also must be flawless because a lot of the girls you will be up against will also be very good posers, if your doing a show like PCA which requires a lat spread make sure you can hit it!

Wellness (TJ left) - Now people seem to get very confused her and I really dont know why, wellness is not just super jacked bikini girls or bikini girls who are just holding fat on the lower half, these girls have MUSCLE. Think wellness as 2/3rd lower body development 1/3rd upper body development, making wellness THE ONLY class (both male and female included) which is not balanced. upper body should be similar size wise as bikini we don’t want mass monsters here we want strong bubbly shape. condition wise we are looking for similar condition to bikini so a strong glute ham tie in and separations across all the major muscle groups. wellness we want full to the brim big bubbly muscle and the posing is very twisty and girly.

Figure (Lou right) - Think strong X frame we want balance symmetry and proportions and all the muscles popping we want jacked quads we want big biceps we want chest and also we want strong hard conditioning! the posing for figure arguably is the hardest dependant on fed you could have up to 9 poses and a routine to music and due to the twisting elements of the poses they can be very hard to balance in and master but don’t just opt for the easiest posing practice hard and the more complex figure poses on stage done right will win you the show. figure is the biggest class upper body wise of the 3 but legs will sit between bikini and wellness keeping the balance.

There are also sup categories to bikini and sometimes wellness and figure too, age wise like juniors 23 and under and masters 35+ 45+ 55+ some feds also offer mum classes and tattooed classes. Most feds also split the classes further into toned and trained or toned and athletic. with all of them the difference is size and condition, you would have the structure for e.g bikini but the trained/ athletic class is just a bit leaner and more muscle than toned same with figure and wellness. its normally as you come in on prep we see out the 2 where you fit best dependant on the way your body gets lean and the muscle mass you have.

If you have any further questions about the difference in classes drop me a dm or have a look at the Ebook on the website.
