Choosing your shows
You know you want to prep, you know what class your doing and you know your personal strengths and weaknesses whats next? Planning your season…
So firstly we want to pick the time of year you want to compete this will be based on 2 main things. your own personal life and commitments e.g holidays, kids, and work and what your goals are that season. if your goal is to do a British finals show we want to be looking at show towards the back end of the year September & October time. planning on doing shows early on then doing the British leaves room for your body to simply burn out as you will have spent so much of the year on prep. If you're not really bothered about finals and your goal is to win a show, overall or pro card you may choose to compete at the beginning of the year instead.
Once you know the time of year you are looking at head over to the KOMPAK website and have a look at their show calendar (heads up as well most of the main feds run pretty much the same calendar year on year so if your looking at next year take this year as inso) have a look whats on around that time and write down all you think could work for you. Try not to constrain yourself with distance saying your only want to travel an hour down the road as you will limit yourself so much to different shows and opportunities say yes to a bit of adventure. its best in this process to have lots of options then you can narrow it down when your ready.
Understand each fed has a slightly different look for each class so you could win the overall in one show and in another show a week later not even get top 3 with the same look. by understanding the looks each fed prefer you can then narrow down feds into ones that suit your body shape, condition and muscularity.
When doing a run of shows you can manipulate the look to a degree depending on fed for example PCA like a hard and conditioned look so we could aim for that level of conditioning then if we did WFF after where they like a slightly softer and fuller look we would just eat into that show bringing a fuller look and also creating a slightly softer look.
The main thing is though to understand the look you bring as an athlete and play to that strength, you don’t have to do PCA or 2bros because they are the most popular uk feds if your look doesn’t suit you will potentially leave disheartened go with what works instead and leave with a win
A good coach will be able to help you choose the feds most suited to you and alter your looks so they are more preferable to the show you are doing that week.
